As of April 2, 2025, all U.S. and EU citizens are required to apply for permission to enter the United Kingdom through the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

How to Apply
Applying for the UK ETA is straightforward and done entirely online. Here's a general breakdown of the application process:
Visit the Official Website: Apply through the dedicated online platform. It is essential to apply only through official channels to avoid third-party fees.
Complete the Application: The application requires basic personal information (name, date of birth, nationality, etc.), travel details (purpose of the trip, duration of stay), and possibly a few health or security-related questions.
Pay the Application Fee: The current ETA processing fee is £16. You cannot get a refund after you apply.
Receive Approval: Most applications will be processed and approved within minutes, although travelers are advised to apply at least 72 hours before their intended travel date. The ETA will be electronically linked to the traveler’s passport, and approval will be sent to the applicant via email.
Check Travel Requirements: After obtaining the ETA, travelers should check their travel documents and ensure all necessary requirements are met before their trip.
How Long is the UK ETA Valid?
The UK ETA will typically be valid for two years, or until the passport’s expiration date (whichever comes first). This means that travelers who are approved for the ETA will not need to apply for a new authorization for each trip within that period, provided their passport remains valid.
Important Things to Know Before Traveling with an ETA
Multiple Entries: An approved ETA allows multiple short visits to the UK during the validity period, without the need for re-application.
Time Limit: Although the ETA is valid for up to two years, it is important to note that each individual visit must not exceed six months (unless a specific visa is obtained).
Validity on Arrival: The ETA is not a guarantee of entry. The final decision on entry will be made by UK Border Control upon arrival.
Transit Passengers: If you are just transiting through the UK on your way to another country, you may still need an ETA, even if you do not leave the airport.
